Interagency Task Forces Strengthen Animal Disease Control in Ho Chi Minh City

13/12/2023 – In response to the complex developments of animal diseases nationwide and in the surrounding provinces of Ho Chi Minh City, particularly the ongoing issue of illegal animal transportation, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has restructured three interagency inspection teams (numbered 1, 2, and 3) to enhance the prevention and control of livestock and poultry diseases within the city.

Team Duties

The first team, led by Mr. Lê Việt Bảo, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Livestock Production and Veterinary Sub-Department, comprises eight members. They are tasked with patrolling and controlling the northwest region of the city, bordering the provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, and Long An.

The second team, with nine members headed by Deputy Head Ms. Lê Đình Hà Thanh, will oversee the northeast area, adjacent to Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces.

The third team, a ten-member squad under the leadership of Deputy Head Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Thiết, will manage the southwest sector, neighboring the Mekong Delta provinces.

Strategy

These teams will collaborate with traffic junction quarantine stations and district-level interagency disease control teams to inspect the movement and trade of animals, animal products, and aquaculture breeds. They are authorized to stop vehicles for inspections and use priority lights during disease prevention and control operations.

Compliance

In cases of violation, the interagency teams will transfer the offending items and vehicles to the participating forces’ headquarters for processing according to regulations. The Livestock Production and Veterinary Sub-Department will lead in establishing violation records, with the local disease control task force coordinating the resolution.

Collaboration

Parallel to disease control measures, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has signed cooperation programs with provinces supplying agricultural products to the city. This initiative aims to proactively monitor livestock breeding and animal disease situations through regular information exchange and quarantine coordination.

This restructuring reflects Ho Chi Minh City’s commitment to maintaining stringent animal disease control measures, ensuring the health and safety of its livestock and poultry, and safeguarding public health and the agricultural economy.
